Michelle is pursuing her Ph.D. (Anatomy) under the supervision of Neil Gemmell, Gert-Jan Jeunen and Miles Lamare. Her project will be developing natural samplers (filter feeders, such as sponges and tunicates) of environmental DNA for marine biodiversity monitoring.
Michelle completed both her BSc and MSc (Marine Science) at the University of Otago.
She has spent over 10 years working in research both here and abroad, including three years at the Australian Institute of Marine Science. Her background is in marine science, mainly looking at the effects of pH, temperature, and food availability, on growth and development in Echinoderm larvae.
