Hailing from the Netherlands, Kaj did his undergraduate studies in neuroscience at the University of Amsterdam and the Leiden University Medical Centre. His keen interest in hormones and the brain brought him to Dunedin, where he joined the University of Otago’s Centre for Neuroendocrinology.
After completing his PhD, investigating how the hormone leptin works in zebrafish, Kaj joined the Gemmell lab as a postdoctoral research fellow in 2022. Here, he brings a neuroendocrinological perspective to the sex-changing fish project.
