PhD student Alex Goikoetxea has just published his first article, just short of a year into his thesis!

The article is a review on the role of cortisol in sex changing fish, such as the NZ spottie wrasse. Despite having a well established role as a stress response hormone, recent research now suggests cortisol may also have an important role on the onset of sex change in sex changing teleost fish. Understanding these mechanisms will improve our understanding of sex determination and differentiation across vertebrates, and may lead to new tools to control fish sex ratios in aquaculture.

Well done Alex!!!
